The Spot Craft Co-Op

This evening at the AGM of the The Spot Craft C0-Op I have volunteered to be a member of the Committee. I think I'm going to enjoy this as all the members are such lovely friendly people as well as being very talented crafters.

Have a look here at their very new website and see what it's all about. One of my teddy cards, one of Dave's peg puzzles and his wine bottle stoppers are on display in the photos on the website so that's pretty exciting.

If you're in Wellington The Spot can be found in the Johnsonville Community Centre, Frankmoore Ave, Johnsonville opposite Countdown. See The Spot website for opening hours. Maybe I'll be on duty when you pop in.

Our Booth in CraftWorld is Set up!!!

After battling with butterflies the size of dinner plates and wrestling with the 'panne velvet' that we used to cover the walls and shelves of our booth we are now all set up at CraftWorld Porirua.

We didn't get a chance to take a photo having to get back home for school and kindy pickups. We didn't even think to take the camera to be truthful. Next time I go down there to check up on things, probably tomorrow seeing it's all so new, I will try and get a photo of the booth. In the meantime here's some photos of some of the turned pens and keyrings that are down there.

For anybody going to the Porirua MegaCentre we would love you to pop into CraftWorld and look for the 'Dave's Turnings' booth in the front half of aisle three. Please let us know what you think.

I've been Tagged

I've been tagged by Kathy.

Here goes:

1. Find the nearest book:
In the bookcase behind my desk lives a number of books and I've found one that has at least 123 pages. See question 3
2. Name the book & the author:
The Christmas Crafts Books by WI Books Ltd. It doesn't seem to have an author as such.
3.Turn to page 123.
Yep I've got page 123.
4. Go to the 5th sentence on the page & copy out the next three sentences onto your blog.
Dark backgrounds show flaws less clearly than light ones. Allow each coat of varnish to dry thoroughly before applying the next. When the design has been well protected by eight or so coats of varnish, it has to be sandpapered between succeedding coats, in order to sink the design below the level of the varnish and to get an even finish. WOW they certainly didn't believe in full stops.
5. Tag 3 more people.
Lets keep this going in NZ. Jane, Donna & Kelly.

DCM Dare 20/20

It's Kathy's turn for the dare this week. Your card has to include 20 of something, 20 blooms, 20 squares (as in my case) or 20 of anything you can put on a card really.

Here's my card. The day Kathy let us know about the dare I had to make a Thank You for Master 3's kindy teacher who was leaving to go to another job. 20 Coloured squares seemed to fit beautifully for a kindy teacher and as an extra special touch a managed to make the greeting out of 20 letters in the same colours. Font used - Kids.

I've also just realised that I never put a post here for the Tuesday Little Extra - Male cards.

Here it is:

The background is patterned pattern stamped semi randomly with a 'Happy Father's Day' word stamp. The ties came from a template in a special cards magazine from 'Simply Cards and Papercraft'. While put more details about the mag in when I can find it. The squiggles were done with watercolour pencil.

DCM - In the Fold

For this dare our cards had to have more than one fold. I haven't been too adventurous my card has two folds. The card was cut as one piece and the pocket for the movie ticket or small gift voucher was folded up from the bottom.

DCM - Little Extra - 70s Retro

My memories of the seventies mostly include the brown and yellow colour code or my Intermediate School uniform YUK!!! and brown and orange floral wallpaper that was resident in one of my later flats.

Here is a mix of the two.

The background is layered yellow and brown card with edges cut with my shapecutter freehand, first time I've used it like that, and layered on to the cream card. Flowers cut with my sidekick and edged with brown ink and raised up on the card with foam tape.

DCM Dare - All thing Media.

This weeks dare is by Gillian: - Maybe you have been inspired by an Ad.... some of those ads in Mags are brilliant designs, Or Incorporate actual Magazines & Newspaper onto your card, Maybe chop up letters (ransom note style) to create the sentiment

I was inspired by the amount of 'Back to School' junk mail that was arriving through my letterbox:- Strips cut from a 'paperplus' cataglogue were mounted on brown textured cardstock and then highlighted with a wooden frame. The title was printed on the computer with brown ink and 'kids' font.

DCM Little Extra - Weather

The sun is out in Wellington, New Zealand today as it was yesterday when I made this card. The card was made in a hurry as we were out and about for DH's birthday.

I stamped the PSX Botanicals sunflower stamp in black on white card and coloured it with watercolour pencils. I cut out just the sunflower and one leaf and layered it onto a sky background card I'd made earlier with a cloud template. Then layered on to yellow and blue card. The clouds aren't awfully visible in this photo I'm afraid.

DCM & 'Everyone is Speshal' join forces for Celebrate the Romance

I hard dare for a cardmaker this week. This week we're joining forces with the wonderful team of Scrapbookers over on the Everyone is Speshal blog. We're daring each other and you to make a Really Romantic Scrapbook Layout - but on a card!

Here is my Valentines card to my junior Daring Cardmaker Lachlan. Lachlan is in love with trains, particularly a steam engine called Gloria after we travelled on the 'Daffodil Express' pulled by her in September last year.

Playing Card no 4 - Signs

Emily's prompt for this week was to use a favouite sign. My favourite sign is this one:

It's the one that Dave put on the gate he made for me to keep the kids out of my craft room. Shame it doesn't seem to work very well tho.
